Mp4 exported from Rise generating error

Hi All,

I have a client who wants some Rise courses migrated to Evolve.

They have video in the Rise courses which I found, after checking some Articulate forums, can only be downloaded by exporting the course as a SCORM and retrieving them from the zip file.

I have done this but when I go to upload the Mp4 files exported from Rise to Evolve, Im met with the error ‘Error: File extension does not match detected file type’.

Has anyone experienced this before and knows a workaround?

Thanks
Craig

Evolve checks uploaded files to make sure they are the declared file type - this is to prevent someone trying to upload malicious files by changing the file extension.

That error indicates that the file’s mime-type doesn’t match the file extension. MP4 files should have a mime type of video/mp4.

If you have access to something like ChatGPT you can give it the file and ask it to check the mime type to find out what it actually is.

Thanks Matt,

I just tried that out with the file in question and it gave me the response ‘The MIME type of the file is video/mp4’

Well that’s very odd. Please could you get in touch with Evolve support about this?

Ive ran them through handbrake and that seems to have solved the problem.

Not sure what happened during export. I also tried exporting as a web object and looking at the assets folder in that zip file. Same issue.

Ive requested access to Evolve support.

Thanks - the file type verification was introduced fairly recently so it would be great if they can dig into this a bit more just to verify there’s not an issue at our end.
