File Names in Resource Extension

Hi there. When downloading resources using the Resource Extension, the files save as “file” , “file (1)”, “file (2)”, etc. It would be beneficial for the learning experience if these file names matched the uploaded file name, i.e. the Asset Title.

I’ve spotted other posts on this issue, but there doesn’t seem to be a good workaround while maintaining the Resource Extension set up.

Is this something that could be looked into, or is there something I can do in the build settings to rectify this issue?

Thanks so much!

It is something we’re aware of it’s just annoyingly difficult to resolve without either making extensive changes to the way Evolve stores files or breaking functionality such as having PDF resources open in the browser (rather than downloading).

For the moment the best workaround I can suggest is to host the resource outside of Evolve and link to it. This does have the additional benefit that you can change the resource without having to republish from Evolve and re-upload to LMS.

If hosting externally isn’t an option you can also add resources to the course .zip post-publish. Publish the course, extract the contents of the zip file, add a folder called ‘resources’, put your files in it, zip everything back up again. The value for the Resource Item Link field would be (for example) ‘resources/my-filename.pdf’
