Resources/Resource Extension

Hello! Is there an equivalent of the resources extension in the new evolve? Or a timeline of when that will be available? We’ve used it before to embed and store resources directly in the course, rather than having to navigate storing them externally in a Google Drive, etc. This is a main/key feature I’ve found that will determine if I build the course I’m working on in the new or legacy version.

Thanks!

Hi Karlee,

In the spirit of simplification, things that were under Extensions in Legacy are being incorporated into the flow of work as you build in New Evolve. We don’t as yet have a mechanism for a button to link to an item in the asset library but it has been added to the wishlist for consideration.

We do now though! As of today the Button element gains two new actions:

  • Download Resource - forces the file to download, even for file types (e.g. PDF) that would normally open in the browser
  • Open Resource - for files such as PDFs that you want to open in the browser; these will always open in a new tab

You can now upload the following additional file types to Evolve: pdf, docx, xlsx, csv, pptx

And you can also now filter the asset library by:

  • Documents (pdf, docx)
  • Spreadsheets (csv, xlsx)
  • Presentations (pptx)

And you can add localised versions of these files if needed.

Two things to note:

  1. In Evolve Preview the downloaded file will have an ‘asset id’ in the filename - e.g. presentation-GlEkDGFbjiPI.pptx - this only happens in preview; in the published version of the course it will have the original filename.
  2. Unlike in Legacy Evolve, you cannot upload old MS Office formats i.e. .doc, .xls & .ppt
