Hi folks!
Does anyone know how to add a timer?
I don’t see that as an option in the extensions list.
Also, if you have used variables to modify the timers per screen can you please share how you did it?
Thanks!

Hey there,
We don’t have a timer as an option in Evolve generally, only if you use the Branching, Interactive Video or Game component for your quizzes.
Hope that helps
Helen
Hi Helen,
Thanks for the reply. That makes sense.
I do have another question. I have a client who needs to track time of engagement and completion because the training is compliance based.
I was thinking, given your response, I might use branching every time and make it simple, just to have the timer. Maybe?
The client wants timers built into every screen or page.
Any thoughts?
Thank again!
Jim
That’s a good challenge. It’s probably not practical, but here’s a timer created using two text boxes, one variable and two triggers. https://juvolearningsolutions.evolveauthoring.com/courses/6727b291378b21a1dd137a15/shared/index.html
Assuming you’re going to output a SCORM file, time spent with the module open should already be reported to the LMS. You can see/check this in SCORM cloud.
You could argue that’s not quite the same as time spent ‘engaging’ with the course (the time counts up whether you are looking at the course or not) but for most compliance purposes it’s usually enough.
Just FYI: requiring the learner to do tasks under a time constraint is quite likely to be an accessibility fail… see Understanding Success Criterion 2.2.1: Timing Adjustable | WAI | W3C
