Translation: Separate media for each language?

Hi All

Is it possible to add language specific media (images/video) now the translations are all combined?

I’m exploring the new all in one translation system (which is a great addition and would save file management headaches  ) and wondering how we work with multiple language specific videos and images… Our clients use languages specific videos and images previously we updated the media in each separate course. So the Arabic course version would have specific Arabic videos/images.

With the new system where everything is combined, I’m not sure if that is possible?

If that’s not possible could I feature request some way of adding this?

  • Maybe a selector in the media items that allow you to upload per language added tied to the XLIFFS added

  • Or a way to hook into the Logic so you could trigger a swap article when specific languages are chosen (less ideal as I guess that the course would have to contain all the video files making the course file size v big?)

The ability to using language might also be useful for another use case where different countries have different requirements.

Thanks

Hi @nath - just to let you know that allowing for language-specific assets is something that’s top of the localisation roadmap.

Sorry but I’m not quite sure what you mean here

Hi @Matt_Leathes Thanks for the update, that’s good to know!

Apologies I’ve realised that I’m conflating language with region!

What i was badly trying to explain was:

  • With some of our courses regions have different legislation and compliance rules that it would be good to be able to show/ hide depending on the language selected.

  • in some product guides there are features that are unavailable in certain territories.

But have realised these are region, not language based so i’ll keep quiet

Not at all, this is all useful! This is something I was expecting to be raised at some point…

As things stand, New Evolve’s multilanguage/localisation support does require that all language versions are identical in terms of structure - but having done a lot of localisation work in e-learning in my time I am aware that it’s occasionally a requirement to have a slightly different structure for some regions/territories - so it’s something that I’d like New Evolve to be able to handle if there is a benefit to our customers and it’s something we can do without adding too much complexity! Doing so via something like Logic might be an interesting way of achieving that… I’ll keep thinking about it!

Adding to this, each language version implies different assets, as of now I’m stuck and I can’t have an e-learning in 19 different languages without the localization of the assets and videos too, this creates a huge problem as I cannot copy the course and apply only one translation to leave it as the one and then replace assets, do you have any timeine for this? If not, I would need to extract all translations from each XLF file and apply them manually

I can’t give you a specific timeline for when this will be released but I can say it is currently in active development

+1 on needing support for assets in multiple languages. This will definitely pause our adoption on moving to New Evolve fully. A good portion of our content is video-based with subtitled video assets for each locale. In Legacy, we upload their own asset to each language version. Hoping this functionality comes soon.
