Smart Video Routing in Courses

Is it possible to present two Product Training videos within a course and have learners choose the appropriate one to watch based on the version of the software they’re using (e.g., Version A vs. Version B)? Ideally, I’d like to guide them to the correct video without manual navigation—perhaps through a branching scenario. Is this possible?

Hi Emily!

There are a good few ways you could achieve this. Such as:

  1. Hide both videos. Have a multiple-choice question that asks what version of the software the learner is using. Then, based on the answer given, unhide the correct video using Logic.
  2. Have the videos in a Tab component, each tab labelled with the version of the software, so that they can choose the correct one.
  3. Use Branching and for the first question, ask their version number and then branch them to the correct video.
  4. Host the videos on YouTube or elsewhere, and then have two different links as buttons that they choose between to launch the correct video.
  5. Use Action Buttons and logic to have the correct video pop up in a dialogue when the learner chooses the button with their version of the software on it.

Do any of those work for you? They have various different setups and functionalities, so please do ask if you need further clarification.

Hi,

Thank you for your quick and helpful response.

I particularly like option 5 - using the action buttons. Is there a way to close the video via the same action button, in case the learner clicks the wrong one and needs to choose a different option?

There will be a close button on the Dialog that comes up on the dialog which will allow them to close it and then choose another.

You will just want to check that you can add the transcript to the video in the dialog too, for accessibility.

Hi,

Thanks again for the quick response. I have looked at the action button behaviour and cannot find what you’re referencing.

Could you please explain where in the course I can find this and if possible show a screenshot?

Thanks again
