Recording responses in the LMS, whats the correct way to set this up?

Hi All, need some help. Please see the response below from a client. Is there a way to record client reponses/data. I have tried multiple ways and tested in scormcloud, but nothing seems to be working. I feel i may have the wrong config?**

Client’s feedback:**

  • ******* has confirmed that CAREERSHIP can export learner response data if the e-learning content is configured to record answers.

  • However, when they tested our module in CAREERSHIP, the exported Excel file did not include the interaction (S) fields (ID, objectives, time, type, correct_responses, weighting, etc.).

  • They believe this may indicate that the module itself is not set up to record responses.

  • They asked whether the test module we provided might have been configured without response-tracking functionality.

Our question to you:

  • Can you confirm whether the module we provided was configured to record learner responses?

  • If not, is it possible to adjust the settings so that the interaction (S) fields are captured in the LMS export?

  • Are there specific publishing options (within SCORM 1.2) we should be using to enable this?

Hi @Tim_MacDermot unfortunately Evolve does not support interaction recording when publishing for SCORM 1.2

There are two reasons for this:

  • support for cmi.interactions is optional in SCORM1.2 - so most LMS vendors did not bother with it. So there’s little value in adding support for it to Evolve since most LMSes would not have support for it.
  • the spec for it in SCORM 1.2 is so limiting as to be virtually useless - for example the data type for recording the learner’s answers to a multiple choice question only allows for ‘one or more single characters separated by a comma. Legal characters are “0” to “9” and “a” to “z”’

If you need support for interaction recording your only option is to publish the course as SCORM 2004.

In legacy evolve, only the Multiple Choice Question and Graphic Multiple Choice Question support interaction recording; in the new version of Evolve all question elements support it.
