Hi, I’m seeking advice on handling platform changes efficiently, particularly alternatives to video product demos and guided tours, as videos are time-intensive to update (especially narrated ones).
We’re exploring Evolve components for accessible solutions. Simulations we’ve used in the past are unfortunately not accessible, so I’m considering static screenshots paired with text instructions for easy updates. However, I’d like to avoid creating long, stacked pages.
Does anyone know of an accessible Evolve component that is user-friendly, saves space, and works well for this kind of content?
Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
I think @hbailey has recently been working with a third-party product that makes this significantly easier… might be of use?
Although it hasn’t been accessible up to now we’ve recently made some improvements to the Narrative component that means it should pretty much be there right now - and in a couple of weeks should be 100% accessible - we’re just finishing up on the audit that should confirm that it now meets the required standards.
There’s also the Accordion, Tabs and FlowChart components…
Finally I think there is a way to set up the Hot Graphic component in such as way that it’s OK from an accessibility point of view - @Sam_Cook_Evolve_PO might be able to confirm that one.
Thanks so much Matt, especially for the heads-up on the Narrative component! It’s the closest to what I’ve been thinking. I’m all ears @Sam_Cook_Evolve_PO if you can please share how to use and make the Hot Graphic component accessible.
And would def love to learn more about what @hbailey has been working on!
So the tool I have been using is external and is called Clueso (clueso.io) and it captures your recording of a process and your voice, processes it and then you edit it into a video with AI voice or a step-by-step guide. It’s great but obviously comes at extra cost.
You could look at the components that Matt mentions, or even the Branching component…
I think the Branching component has more specific focus issues currently, so I wouldn’t recommend for an accessible course.
@Lily_Hoffmann the hot graphic component ‘works’ with assistive technologies, the recommended set up I would say is to not have tooltip items and don’t display items inline. The main issue with this is when you open items, screenreaders will automatically read the content, but then the learner must navigate through the content pop up again - so they will hear the content twice. Other set ups for this component have more considerable navigation issues.
It seems annoying but is actually standard behavior for a properly-labelled ‘dialog’ (popup). When the dialog opens the screenreader will announce the title then proceed to auto-read through everything in the dialog. For a dialog that contains no interactive content, there’s no need to then progress through all the information again, the user can just press Esc to close it.
I would add that the setting Behavior > Show Popup as carousel shouldn’t be used if you want a good experience for screenreader users.
Thanks for letting me know about Clueso! It looks great! Quick question, when it comes to using it in Evolve, you just embed a video link or upload the video as an asset, correct?
That’s right - the videos just drop in like any other video asset into Evolve - and when you export your finished video from Clueso you can auto produce your subtitle file too(and - if they work on my feature request, a transcript file too hopefully - currently I just run the subtitles through chatgpt and ask it to make it into plain text) for accessibility!
