Creating a course with a pre-test that unlocks content if questions are failed

Hi folks,

I’m designing a course based on the ‘test me, teach me’ model. Its purpose is to be a refresher for a course completed the previous year. Here’s the whole premise:

A learner begins the refresher by completing a short quiz consisting of twelve questions. These questions are divided into three sets of four questions, with each set representing a different topic.

If a learner answers all questions correctly in a set, they pass that topic.

If a learner answers any question incorrectly in a set, they do not pass, and this unlocks a scenario that they must then complete. It also displays hidden blocks after the quiz that provide additional instructions.

I’ve tested a few ideas using various triggers and variables and the course attainment extension, but I’m struggling to get the course to mark as passed or failed. I know this is probably because not all the content is being marked as complete, since learners don’t need to view all the content, but I can’t figure it out. I think I’ve been staring at this too long and my team think I’m going barmy because I keep trying to explain my logic to a toy velociraptor (I don’t have a rubber duck).

Has anyone tried to create a course like this in Evolve previously? I’d love some advice and/or a fresh perspective.

Hi Gemma!

What a great idea! we love the ingenuity - and I also love the velociraptor stand in for the rubber duck!

I think in this case we’d need to take a closer look at the course setup itself to see if we can ascertain what the logic flow is and what is and isn’t being completed.

Could you DM me a link to the course, and then if it needs explaining, maybe we could set up some time to run through it.

Best, Helen

It sounds like you’ve got a working course but you’re not getting the completion data in the lms, or am I mistaken? If I’m right, what do want sent to the lms? Is it a score or just a pass/fail?
