Original Request thread

Hi,

In the ‘Article Indicator’ extension would it be possible to be able to specify which articles appear as indicators, rather than all of them appearing?

Thanks,

Nick

I’d like to see the same feature for Comments in Live Preview.

I continue my quest to have the ability to load a certificate background image (that covers the whole page). Maybe this could replace the logo placement option. With this option, if you just wanted a positional logo you could place that on the page image where you needed it. For those that use a LMS they can utilise the LMS’s certification system but that is not a viable option when using HTML web-based delivery.

Hello!

I have added this to the general certificate improvements thread in the Evolve features plan, for consideration.

Thanks

Hi,

Could we add the ability to export question banks into some kind of doc, or even a simple html page, where the correct/incorrect answers are highlighted along with the feedback. I tried using the html course export option that are for translations, but they don’t easily convey this in a way that’s useful for an SME.

This would be really useful for SMEs wanting to quickly review the whole thing in their entirety, particularly when the question banks have lots of questions. At the moment it’s a real struggle, particularly when the front end of the course is designed to only pull in a percentage of the total questions the bank has.

P/S - saw previously someone mentioned about the ability to paste question banks into another course, and agree this would be so time saving too

Thanks,
Paul

Another one from me

When building questions in a page using the MCQ, we have the option to add an image after the question:

But when we try to create a MCQ question via the question bank, this option is missing.

It would be really useful to have the ability to add an overall image to a MCQ question being drawn from a bank at random, so we could add questions like… “What’s the issue in this scene?” etc

Thanks,
Paul

The final one from me for now!

Still on the topic of assessments. We have to leverage question banks, and the ability to pull questions at random a lot, in order to satisfy certain client requirements.

We’re looking to use more scenario-based questions, but at the moment we’re limited to creating these scenario questions with text via the question bank. But it would be great to be able to insert a small video clip (a bit like the way you can insert an image into a question in the page builder), and have the MCQ question appear underneath.

This would really help take the assessments via the question banks to the next level.

Cheers,
Paul

Feature request: Flipcards

I’m hoping it will be possible to have different vertical alignments for the front text and the back text.

As of right now, you can only choose Top, Center or Bottom but it applies to both front and back. I would like to be able to set the front text to Bottom and the back text to Center.

Thank you!

Agreed!! I will put this forward.

My enhancement request would be more audio support.

There are officially only 5 components that support audio (as per the filters) although Sorting would be a sixth, and there is no possibility to add audio to feedback. We cannot even add audio as a choice in a multiple choice type question.

Funnily enough, it seems easier to add video than audio. The tabs component supports video but not audio.

I work in language teaching so obviously the ability to add audio is invaluable but having audio in feedback is quite a common feature in all courses, if only to add some engagement for incorrect and incorrect answers etc.

The game component has a bit of audio but even here, there is no possibility to add audio to the questions themselves, just general feedback.

So please! More audio support. No new components required really, just added support in existing ones.

In the Text and Graphic component (T&G), I believe images should have the same features and settings as Graphic component images. In my team’s case, specifically adding the lightbox feature would earn the Evolve team a standing ovation. A brief description of our current workflow:

When using the T&G currently, if there’s an image that may require zooming in, we have to stop using the T&G, create a new block containing side-by-side separate Graphic and Text components with lightbox enabled, then create another T&G to continue the course.

This change would improve many users’ course creation efficiency and course organization, and the Evolve UI would benefit from added consistency across components. I hope to see this feature added soon. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Ooh we like the sound of a standing ovation! Let me put your suggestion to the team!!

I would also like to see paragraph spacing added as double returns mean screen reader uses hear the word BLANK read out bewteen every paragraph. As you can imagine, this is quite annoying and unnecassary.

Hello  I was wondering if there are any updates on this feature request? Thanks.

I know this request is four years old, and I’m sure it’s been been made multiple times since then, but I want to stress how important it is. I’m just getting started with Evolve on the free trial, and there are some things like this that are really putting me off using it. I just don’t want to give my students an exercise where they have to type in eight answers again because they had a typo in one of them.

Hi there, I will raise this with our devs and see what they say - in the meantime, a workaround would be to break up the questions so they aren’t all in one block - eg break it down into 4 consecutive questions where they are filling in two answers at a time, for example.

May I ask what else is putting you off Evolve? Would really appreciate any feedback.

Cheers-Sam

Hi Sam, thanks for your reply. Yes, I considered that as a workaround but, as well as having multiple ‘Submit’ buttons, it would mean that the students were able to see, on the first attempt, if they had one question right before attempting the next one, which isn’t how I would normally design the task.

I’ve actually settled on a different workaround, which is just to limit them to one attempt, and show the correct answers once they’ve submitted their attempt. This is okay, but I think they really should be able to edit their answers and retry.

I have to say that I’m really enjoying Evolve as a tool. I’m currently just on the free trial period, and I could see myself using it long term. Nevertheless, I’ll take the opportunity to outline a couple of minor gripes below. For context, I’m a language teacher coming from H5P embedded in Moodle, and my initial interest in Evolve was in creating lessons that are a little more integrated, more attractive and more fluid, and also in building my own e-learning portfolio.

Anyway, my list of minor gripes/missing features/component types:

• No ‘Drag the words’ exercise - not a ‘biggie’, as I think it’s not so bad for the students to have to type the words

• No equivalent of H5P’s ‘Mark the words’

• I would also love to see a ‘matching sentence halves’ exercise. This is a classic of the analogue world that nobody seems to want to reproduce in the digital domain:

• More sophisticated audio handling, such as: hot graphics with sound, flip cards with sound, and the ability to take an audio input from the user. This is a big one for language teaching.

• It would also be very cool to have ‘Question sets’ that allow you to bundle multiple question types (from a question bank) into a single component, although I appreciate that this is probably difficult to implement and beyond the scope of what Evolve is intended to be. When it comes to assessment, especially, I don’t want my students to pass a test on multiple choice alone.

I realise that a lot of this is specific to my teaching context. All the same, I think it’s a great tool. I had played around with Adapt before, but as a busy teacher and not a full-time learning designer, never managed to make much progress with it or produce any content that I was able to use in class. Evolve does a great job of flattening the learning curve and speeding up the creation process, and in a relatively short time, I’ve managed to produce attractive-looking content that I can use. It’s just missing some interaction types for me. I’m possibly just not the target user, but then maybe there’s a gap in the market for a sister product.

As a final note, I’d add that the option of monthly billing would also make a difference. I think the pricing is fair, but it’s a lot for a freelancer to commit to a year’s subscription if we’re not completely convinced of how much use we’ll get from it, and possibly already paying for licences for other similar/rival products.

Thanks ever so much for taking the time for a detailed reply, it’s immensely helpful to us to receive this kind of feedback.

Firstly, you can pay for Evolve on a monthly basis with a valid credit card, you don’t have to pay for a year in one go. If you decide to switch to subscription from your free trial, you can put your payment details in your Evolve Account Management site (in Evolve, click ‘Account’ by your initials top right), select ‘Edit Subscription’ and you can add payment details there and opt for monthly card payments.

I completely understand about those interactions types it would be nice to have, as well as the additional functionality in existing components.

Our focus for the last year plus and for a fair chunk of the future has been to focus on the usability of the tool, rather than the course output. Whilst we still have a way to go on the work we are doing on the user interface, we very much hope to focus on the interactions themselves after that. We do plan to revisit question types for a number of reasons.

We are a small team juggling a number of business goals for Evolve, so there’s always a list of things we really want to work on that we have to prioritise in various ways.

Thanks again for the feedback and if you have any issues with setting up monthly payments please let me know.

Going from the example you’ve given, it seems to me like Evolve’s Matching component would do the job pretty well… not perfect, admittedly, but good enough.

That’s a great suggestion!

The challenge is: what to then do with that audio input? The problem is that almost everything you’d then want to do would require support from the platform the course is running on - or require you to set up some sort of integration with a platform that could handle this e.g. if you wanted to email the audio file somewhere you’d need integration with mailgun/similar.
