Elusive text field on Downloads extension is pickling my brain

Howdy folks,

I’m customising the look of the Downloads extension page for a course. My client wants to remove the name entry label and text field, as they just want their learners to download the reflection tasks at the end of the course. Here’s where I’m at:

  • Linked to all the relevant open input boxes to be included in the PDF download.
  • Set ‘Display Learner Name’ to Hide in the Downloads extension.
  • Remove the Name label and required text from the Downloads section in Global Settings.

Alas, the text input box remains on the screen, as if taunting me. How do I get rid of it? I do not doubt that this will be something simple, and I will likely be kicking myself for not spotting it sooner. A screenshot is attached so you, too, can experience the mockery that this small collection of HTML code is inflicting on me.

Hi @gemz! I feel your pain with this one… I was surprised on digging into this to find that text input box doesn’t disappear when you have ‘Display Learner Name’ set to ‘Hide’ in the Reflection Extension settings!

It feels like it should so I’ll log this up as a feature request - but as you know we’re pretty busy working on something big at the moment so I don’t know when/if we might get to it…

It’s worth mentioning that if the course is being run from a SCORM LMS then the text input box should automatically be populated with the Learner’s name… but if that’s still not acceptable you might try this workaround…
