# Allow Flowchart Item Focus?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to work out what the “Allow Flowchart Item Focus?” option in the Flow Chart component does. Does this mean ‘focus’ in the HTML sense?

And if so, does that mean I have to turn this on if I want it to be usable by keyboard users and screen readers?

Hi Steve,

I turn this on for all Flowcharts, as it automatically moves the focus to the next item for the screen reader after you select the Next button.

When I tested it last, it worked a treat.

I think it’s probably there because some people think it’s poor accessibility for the code to automatically shift focus to the next item whereas others think that’s useful/desirable behaviour.
